How To Do the Palangi 21 Minute Cardio Routine on the Elyptical Machine!

Hey gang!

Ya know one of the by-product benefits of my taking on, and providing these “6-Week Body/Life Challenges” (more about the “Body/Life” distinction in a later post) is that often times….clients really need my laser-like, “Master-to-Student” coaching!

And I love it cuz every time I help someone with a specific issue…when I share it publicly…I learn there’s hundreds of others who’ve had the same “issue” or better put, Specific Results-Getting Questions!

And I must thank our member and athlete Mer Weiss for this one!

Mer taking on a 10K as a life goal…and she’s leveraging the coaching of the 6WC to get results.

Her question is:

“If I wanna mix up the actual exercise movement, (ie running, biking, etc) how would I go about using your famous “Terrible 21″ cardio routine, say, on an ELLIPTICAL MACHINE?”

Answer: “Mer! Great question!”

I just did this myself, side-by-side with Ms. Laura Cohen, also a 6WC member, and ill tell you EXACTLY how you do this without getting confused!

First off, in Laura’s case, she was dealing with a pulled calf muscle….but she didn’t want to let that circumstance blindside her progress because she reported her clothes were already fitting looser after just 2 weeks into the challenge.

So I met her last night, and tested out her range of motion, and we together decided that the Elliptical machine would be a good testing grounds.

So I printed out the palangi.com/cardio.pdf document (aka “T-21″, slapped it up there for here to see and follow, and quickly realized the elliptical can be tricky….that is of course, if you don’t have a plan!

That said, here’s what I discovered (btw, I say “discovered” because, normally, if I do T-21on this machine, its for a steady pace style of workout; so I too am new at using Elliptical in this way) I learned that “intensity”, is easier managed by using the machines settings vs. Simply moving your legs faster. (Beware though… I did it just yesterday…and its mad hard! Creeps up on you in third leg of the format.)

I keep the same RPM’s (revolutions per minute), and adjust intensity by going up 2 levels a ta time (machine brand depending) I.e. 50%-Level 2… 60%-level 4… 70%-level 6… And so on. Now, by “intensity” and “level” what it is is, “level” represents the INCLINE.

Fyi, most machines have 1-12 or 1-20 levels.

First crack at it though, do like a 5 min warm up and figure out the machine…

Then, get confident in your Terrible 21 routine for that particular elliptical brand/machine, and let it rip!

So…again…for me and Laura we did:

60%=level 4
70%=level 6
80%=level 8
90%=level 10! (Yikes)

And, as you may know, the routine is primarily made up of exactly the 60, 70, 80, 90% thing repeating at one minute per each step of the interval “Leg”.

T21 has 4 legs; the last of which has a “bonus minute” that takes you to 100% or your personal, perceived maximum”

But be careful doing any and ALL exercise when “100′s” are somewhere in the picture!

WORLDS SOFTEST RUNNING SHOE NO JOKE!

Ok… Ill admit it, “I hate Nike” anything.

I hate the logo, the image, the commercialization, the idiots who wear their clothing and think they are athletic for doing so… And that’s when I’m in a good mood.

I can’t recall when exactly my disdain for their products came about…$aybe its cuz I’m just an Adidas, beastie boy, white dude kinda person I dunno, lol!

But I gotta hand it them…. They freaking nailed a home run with this shoe.

I currently run in New Balance, and Asics. And I always buy the most expensive ones. And they are always somewhat “new” (you’d be suprised how many people run on “old” sneakers… Thinking that just cuz they didn’t run much, their still “new”). Nope. I feel its as if certain high tech synthetics have an “expiration date”. Like that’s stuffs a living breathing organism.

And boy did I get a slap in the face when me and my boy John Iacono (one of my best friends and one hell of a debt settlement specialist to boot, true professional with an understanding of how that stuff works). Anyways, yeah, so John and me are sneakers shopping because I’m personally training him rinow at midnight like four days a week (its literally the only time this kid has with his newborn son Dom in the house now) and one thing I ALWAYS try and PUSH on my clients….

IS TO LEARN TO LOVE RIUNNING!

Running is NEVER a “natural” thing.

Even the people who say “I’ve always loved running…”…I believe are either lying to you so as to make you feel inadequette for not liking it as much as them.. Or…or…. They just plain ole forgot how much it sucked when they started… Or… Perhaps when they started, they wew “skinny enough” to start liking it. And it stuck.

Me? I’m a heavyset guy. Stocky. Lean, but I get chuncky real quick like any pale skin Italian kid who didnt get the tall, dark, and sexy jean from his pasta eatin ancestors.

And my secret weapon is a lil bit a runnin…. As often as I can sneak it in to my ridiculously busy schedule.

And, because I’m muscular, I run “heavily” if ya know what I mean; unlike my father Joeseph Palangi who ran a four-minute mile in high school (damn pop, I still can get over that, lol) (my dads so humble: when I bring up his accomplishments he always corrects me “Son, it was 4:11 flat”. (Oooh. 11 seconds. Uhm ok dad lol!)

So that’s why I’m so amped about these kicks!

I put on EVERY top dollar sneaker (including Mizuno)…yep…. One on the left, and the Nike on the right… Then, in reverse of course.

And the result of my “Pepsi Challenge” with running sneakers resulted in these being the SOFTEST RIDE of any sneaker I ever tried on.

I ran in the store, back and forth, fast-starts and stops, hell to toe, etc… And these Nikes are amazing. (I didn’t buy them though. John did. I already spent my sneaker budget for the summern and have to beat up my pair of New Balance before I can justify going out and investing in these babies. (What can I say, I’m getting practical these days, besides, I need to save for new heavy bags cuz all my maniac kickboxers are destroying the heavy bags, and some of them need to replaced… So… Priorities)

I’m ranting about them so much also because one of the things I train my SIX WEEK CHALLENGERS on is getting into the conversation called “I Love Running! (Finally)”

And I’d be a bad master if I didn’t plug these Nikes without reserve!

The pic above is an actual snapshot of my food scale; I printed labels with the food code already on there to save time going back and forth from the manual etc.

The Taylor food scale is available at Target and….is a must have for every person who could us a lil “Food Mastery” in their life!

CARB OF THE WEEK!

Hey how’s it going friend and subscribers?  Check this out:

In order to get and to stay LEAN… the food you eat, must be, in my expert opinion:

1) NUTRITIOUS: having sufficient vitamins, minerals, and nutrients, that warrant it worth consuming.

1a) REAL: it must be whole, perfect, and complete in and of itself; no processing, and no glamor, and no wrappers. “from the earth” is
better the “from the people” or “from the machines” any day of the week!

2) TASTY: it’s gotta be almost-delicious, or, you’ll gravitate towards the junk sooner than later.

3) FILLING: It needs to give you some (not tons though, so watch out) feelings of satisfaction down below in your belly! (Yum!)

and finally… again, following the “will this food support a fat-burning effect in my body” criteria, it must be (if it’s a CARBOHYDRATE)….

4) LOW-GLYCEMIC: It must NOT cause your blood sugar levels to spike, inhibiting the fat-burning effect.

AND THIS WEEKS PALANGI PRODUCE PICK… IS….

THE JAPANESE YAM!
What?  A Japanese Yam?

Yep, I love em! They’re firmer than a regular yam, and once cooked (I prepare them by the bunches, like I bake 10 at a time!) they “keep”
a little longer in the fridge. And… when I’m COMMITTED TO GETTING LEAN…. I WEIGHT MY FOOD! ESPECIALLY ONE THAT DO NOT COME WITH LABELS!

And this “keeping” is important. Here’s why:

One of the biggest challenges people face when trying to get and stay lean, is having PALANGI APPROVED FOODS at “arms reach.”

If you don’t have arms-reach good food, you’ll tend to eat-on-the-go… and that’s bad news because even the so-called “good stuff” is often
high in sodium, and just too risky for you to eat. You’re not in control if it’s not coming from your kitchen… PERIOD!

Northvale Man Loses 35 Pound with Palangi Kickboxing!

Hey guys I’m honored to introduce Jeff Spezial to you! Jeff lost 35 pounds from Palangi Kickboxing alone (meaning, I didn’t raid his fridge, take him “Shopping With Scott”, and re-teach him to prepare meals)…. He did it on his own, and with the physical support of our Kickboxong classes, and the mental discipline locked within, and unleashed from you…. Each and every class!

Jeff didn’t give me any before pics… But that’s okay, I’m just proud to acknowledge his hard work and dedication.

Jeff, its an honor tp have such high quality people such as yourself in class!

Bergen County Woman Loses 65 Pounds with Palangi Kickboxing!

Linda Bilyk started training in Palangi Kickboxing just over a year ago… Now, here we are, Mid June…. just look at how far she’s come along!

Linda has been training with me at a pace of EXACTLY two times per week for a year now.

She listens, and APPLIES the basic principles of the Palangi Athlete’s Diet.

She is NOT an extremist by any means… she eats in moderation, trains at about 70 to 80% of her maximum, sometimes more, (a perfect pace for long term results by the way)….

and Linda is also the Manager at Trader Joe’s in Edgewater New Jersey, and Palangi Kickboxing has given her (in her words) a whole new body and mind!
